Week 3, 2012

New goal – speak in terms of weeks the way “parent’s-to-be” do.
Why?
It seems to make the accomplishments of each week seem more significant as well as keep track of time rather efficiently.
Week 1 was predominantly filled with planning of projects for work as well as self.
Week 2 delved into more detail in preparation for week [...]

Why there are very few true innovators?

A few months ago I read an article by one of my peers which made be think about the concept of innovation. In his day and age, I find true innovation lacking.
Entrepreneurs such as Mark Zuckerberg may have been accused of stealing the Harvard twins idea, but did he really?
The twins may have sparked the [...]

Young entrepreneurs and the catch-22 they face

I’ve been an entrepreneur for a while, although in my mind, I’ve started too late. I look at entrepreneurs such as Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Eduardo Saverin (Facebook), Chad Hurley (YouTube), Pete Cashmore (Mashable) and Mark Shuttleworth (Thawte) and apart from very few women 30 and below as role models, these young entrepeneurs are leaps and [...]

An infographic on the optimistic outlook for entrepreneurs in 2011

This infographic may relate to American entrepreneurs, but certain trends affect all entrepreneurs, globally. Entrepreneurs will always be affected by:

economic changes
climate changes
staff churn
technology trends
funding when expanding
introducing new products
competition etc.

The infographic does refer to South Africa, when comparing countries intending to hire and fire people and the indication that we plan to hire 10% more staff [...]

9 February 2011, finally becoming productive

Today started off really early. My boyfriend’s ex was visiting the animals to say goodbye so two major things were happening:

had to get dressed earlier (usually work till 8 in pj’s unless I have meetings)
I was meeting my partners ex-wife for the first time

The day went okay. Yes it was a little weird, but it [...]

Six months in review …

Okay so it’s been more than six months, but lots has transpired. Yes, I said “transpired“. Using the word “happened” feels insignificant at least.
So, we’re looking back and taking stock. What exactly has been filling my time? The new baby/business, the new-new business, new projects, new clients, new experiences.
I’ve officially decided to keep www.shanakay.com as [...]

Social media junkie… yes I am..

I am a social media “junkie“. My passion was fueled with the birth thereof. The integration of technology, networking, social interaction and writing has become the glue to my paper, the gum stuck to my shoe, the fly-away hair that does not stay down no matter how much hair-gel one applies. [...]

Shiny penny or nitty gritty?

I’ve been told (many times) that I have “shiny penny” syndrome, evident in this very blog post since it has been inspired by the detail I was involved in. However, in addition to this, my magnifying eye for detail exists. This often leads me to send feedback for issues I have no involvement in, mainly [...]
