Monday 18th July 2011, happy birthday Madiba..

It’s our ex President’s birthday today.
Happy birthday Madiba!
I admire this man so much. We all know the inspirational, peaceful man he is today, but I have a documentary of his life, which was not easy. We complain about the little things in life when we have it easy because of great leaders like this.

New experiences v2.0

So Jozi is a monster that can only be devoured when living here. The experience I have as a visitor vs. residing here is so far apart that it warrants a blog post.

did you know that Johannesburg is one of the biggest urban jungles in the world?
did you know that Johannesburg has more shopping malls [...]

How I spent a cold Saturday in Jozi …

Last night my partner and I made our way in the freezing weather to watch one of our favorite bands, THE SCRIPT, perform at the Coca Cola Dome. Having spent the last seven days nursing bronchitis, I was nowhere near ready to venture out, but alas, Golden Circle tickets as a gift, cannot be starred [...]

Belated birthday party …

Coincidentally, I had to be in Cape Town for work in June. Having spent my actual birthday alone, I decided to meet up with some of my Cape Town friends and celebrate the visit as well as a late birthday. The time flew by too quickly but a drinks/cake mission at The Alba Lounge ended [...]

Birthday month of May – a review

The month of May is a magical month. Although this year, slightly different. Having relocated a few months ago I found myself celebrating my birthday, on my own.
My partner was away on business and the birthday itself fell on a Monday, and was spent in front of the telly with the kitties and dog.
Not all [...]

Young entrepreneurs and the catch-22 they face

I’ve been an entrepreneur for a while, although in my mind, I’ve started too late. I look at entrepreneurs such as Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Eduardo Saverin (Facebook), Chad Hurley (YouTube), Pete Cashmore (Mashable) and Mark Shuttleworth (Thawte) and apart from very few women 30 and below as role models, these young entrepeneurs are leaps and [...]

An update on new experiences …

Relocating has two main impacts:

where you live (doh!)
where you do stuff (eat, drink, play, shop etc.)

Okay there are more than two, but you get my point right? Another two major discoveries about Johannesburg:

it is really green and is South Africa’s urban jungle
it has the most amount of shopping malls in close proximity to each other, [...]

Birthday month… Mayness ….Yayness

I may be a lady, but one who is not a frequent shopper, generally, I don’t like shopping (in shopping malls anyway :)). I usually buy things as I need them or out of necessity. Except when it comes to birthday month! Birthday month is more about the psychological permission to feel good about everything [...]

An infographic on the optimistic outlook for entrepreneurs in 2011

This infographic may relate to American entrepreneurs, but certain trends affect all entrepreneurs, globally. Entrepreneurs will always be affected by:

economic changes
climate changes
staff churn
technology trends
funding when expanding
introducing new products
competition etc.

The infographic does refer to South Africa, when comparing countries intending to hire and fire people and the indication that we plan to hire 10% more staff [...]

Officially two months and I am finally starting to feel at ease ..

So Johannesburg is NOT Cape Town, anyone can tell you that. What they don’t tell you is that everything moves faster (especially the traffic) and everything is bigger, especially the freeways.
Usually I am quite a assertive driver, but “Omar Sharif my balls!” Jozi drivers and freeways are somethin’ else!
I have to say that getting used [...]
